Get Started as a Community Volunteer

subpage-imgThank you for your interest in AkronReads.

Community Volunteers are individuals and groups of ten people or less.

AkronReads gives members of our community the chance to:

  • make a direct impact in a child’s life by helping him or her read at grade level
  • provide direct support to Akron Public Schools in meeting required literacy goals
  • shape the future of our community by supporting students for a lifetime of learning

Steps to becoming an AkronReads Community Volunteer:

  1. Read through our FAQ page for basic information about the AkronReads program.
  2. Determine the school(s) and tutoring schedule options that you prefer.
  3. Submit your volunteer application via our online form.
  4. Complete volunteer requirements (see below)
  5. Upon completing your background check, you will be ready to begin tutoring on the first available day, according to your team’s schedule.

NOTE: Please do not contact the schools or principals about volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in becoming an AkronReads volunteer, please let us know via our online submission form
