Get started as a Corporate Partner

fp-imgThank you for your interest in AkronReads.

AkronReads gives members of our community the chance to:

  • make a direct impact in a child’s life by helping him or her read at grade level
  • provide direct support to Akron Public Schools in meeting required literacy goals
  • shape the future of our community by supporting students for a lifetime of learning

Steps to becoming an AkronReads corporate partner:

  1. Read through our FAQ page for basic information about the AkronReads program.
  2. Determine the school(s) and tutoring schedule options that your company prefers.
  3. Contact us to notify us of your company’s interested in tutoring.
  4. Company coordinators (who serve on our steering committee) can log in to our special volunteer portal to access:
    • customizable volunteer recruitment posters to promote the program to your company employees
    • tutor information forms to input all volunteer information, including volunteer names, contact information, and selected days and times
  5. Complete volunteer requirements (see below)
  6. Akron Public Schools staff will confirm your company’s date and times and you will be ready to begin tutoring on the first available day, according to your team’s schedule.
  7. Email the tutor information of all individuals from your company to the program administrators. The tutor information form is available through the volunteer portal.
  8. Verify that all tutors on your corporate team have completed background checks.  Background checks MUST be in place for each team member before reporting to schools. Each volunteer must check off the box on the tutor information sheet agreeing to complete a background check.

Note: Please do not contact the schools or principals directly. Please contact AkronReads for more information about volunteer opportunities.
